To Hope (It’s all about perspective)

“I learned if you try you can fly, if you don’t then you won’t, so try ’til you die.” -Juelz Santana

I lurve this quote, I’ve been singing it for weeks. I can’t get it out of my head, its a daily mantra to keep pushing, to keep trying, to keep getting back up. Someone once told me: “No matter what happens, you’ll be alright, because you’ll either be dead, or you’ll be alright.”

-i lost my cell phone this weekend
-i found out that there’s a 95% chance that I won’t get into a top PhD program
-i’m working 90 hours/week

To everyone who is working on big dreams, waiting for answers, hoping that things come together, praying for relief or an end to hard times….don’t stop. Our success, failures, trials and triumphs are generally a matter of perspective. It’s cliche’ but I’m definitely a “glass half-full” type of gal. I’m so optimistic that if there’s ANY water in the glass I’ll try to find a way to make that worth celebrating. And I truly think that attitude is 85% of the secret to my success.

-a cabbie is overnighting my cell phone from NY
-i am focusing on the 5% chance that I DO have to get into a top program
-i lurve what i’m doing and it doesn’t feel like work (most days)

  1. It doesn’t matter what happens – you always come out on top in the end.

You love hard, play hard and work hard.

Your dreams are coming true – you might take the less than straight road, but that is half the fun for you.

    Love you lots….Darleen

  2. hey funchilde….
    that’s what i’m talking about! perspective…..

i’m sending out positive vibes that you will get into your program of choice.

    be well,
    kellz

  3. First of all, I adore that photo and also the “you’ll be dead or you’ll be alright”.

Your optimism is inspiring and refreshing. [crossing my fingers for you, just to be safe though]

  4. hey…we are ALL in your corner (sonali, subria & I) and we KNOW that whatever you set your mind to you WILL accomplish. following what everyone else has been saying, we are sending tons and tons of good vibes your way and I’m here if and when you need to talk, vent, laugh or just come by and have a muffin (that the girls are currently baking, so good luck to all of us).

    love ya,
    stacey

  5. Hey,
I have always loved your perseverance, dedication and optimistic attitude. It does not matter if you get in the top 5%, just being accepted into the Phd program will be an accomplishment. Keep striving, dreaming, hoping and believing and you will have it all. I always think of one of my favorite sayings when I need a push:

“The lion and Gazalle” Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows that it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows that it must out run the slowest gazalle or it will starve. It does not matter whether you are a lion or gazalle. When the sun comes up you better be running.

  6. I love the photo you posted, I think it is very sweet. I hope you get into your program. Something I always like to think when things don’t go the way I want them to go is that things always happen for a reason and so I always try to find out the reason why things happen the way they do and make the best of every situation.

  7. Keep ya head up homey! Nobody can steal your shine.

How do you manage to work 90 hour weeks, update a blog, and still send me motivational messages? You, my dear, are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

And remember, ‘no’ only means ‘no’ until you can hustle out a ‘yes.’ Knock 3 times.

    Keep shining.
