Zodiac Maniac

I’m not “into” astrology per se, but a good friend has me hooked on checking my horror-scope every now and then (I like Washington Post online/Yahoo). The funny thing is…I am pretty much the stereotypical Aries personified. I would consider myself “self-absorbed” versus “self-centered” but will admit that as a single, child-free, eldest child and entreprenuer….uhm, why wouldn’t I be? :-)  And yes, I know that having a blog is evidence enough!

I don’t think I’m overbearing, but I know that I have a “strong” personality. That gets balanced by my sincere curiosity about people and my (I pray) fairly complete lack of judgement of others. One of the best compliments I received recently (I hope it was a compliment!) was that I “treat everyone like they are the most interesting person you’ve met and you sincerely want to know all about them without regard to their “status” or what they can do for you.”

I think on the surface that this is an awesome compliment (I’m claiming it as such!) but it ties back into the natural “egotism” (not always bad) of the Aries. I am generally so self confident that whatever I want to happen I can MAKE happen that I don’t think in terms of “needing” someone else to get there/get something I want. Unless of course we’re talking about nookie (and really, aren’t we always talking about that one way or another?) in that case, that is where the famous Aries charm comes in handy.

Contrary to our external personalities, Aries tend to be pretty emotional characters, very intuitive and empathetic. We’re highly romantic and fond of grand gestures and small pleasures alike. We like making money, but aren’t obsessed with it, believing there’s more where it came from.

The things I love about my sign (myself?) are: Generous, Intelligent, Charismatic, Leader, Passionate, Adventurous, Loyal, Romantic, Virtuous.

Things YOU might not like about an Aries: We’re Chatty, Stubborn, Impatient with Details and Easily Distracted, We typically don’t like routine and detest losing at almost anything.

What about you? Do you subscribe to astrological theory? Do you “match” your sign’s qualities and characteristics? Does your date/mate match theirs?

Aries
March 21 – April 19

Aries is the first Sign of the Zodiac, and that’s pretty much how those born under this Sign see themselves: first. Aries are the leaders of the pack, first in line to get things going. Whether or not everything gets done is another question altogether, for an Aries prefers to initiate rather than to complete. Do you have a project needing a kick-start? Call an Aries, by all means. The leadership displayed by Aries is most impressive, so don’t be surprised if they can rally the troops against seemingly insurmountable odds — they have that kind of personal magnetism. An Aries won’t shy away from new ground, either. Those born under this Sign are often called the pioneers of the Zodiac, and it’s their fearless trek into the unknown that often wins the day. Aries is a bundle of energy and dynamism, kind of like a Pied Piper, leading people along with its charm and charisma. The dawning of a new day — and all of its possibilities — is pure bliss to an Aries.

  1. Wikipedia on Libra:

The Libra person is co-operative, diplomatic, open-minded, urbane, fair, partnership-oriented, avoids conflict, easy-going, even-tempered, refined, balanced, graceful, artistic, home-body, charming, debative, flexible, sensual, idealistic, equalitarian and sociable. They also seem to have a great chance at making vast amounts of wealth and fortune. They can sometimes also rationalize, be easily deterred, indecisive, lazy, changeable, gullible, easily influenced, flirtatious, conceited, perfectionist, aloof, mildly vengeful, can’t say no, quarrelsome, over-seriousness, cold, self-indulgent, cruel, jealous, and some are violent.

    * Likes: fairness, equality, home, stability, happiness, justice, saying yes

    * Dislikes: drama, yelling, being ignored, judgmental people/being judged, saying no

    * Ideal Careers: Artist, Real Estate Agent, Entertainer Agent, Design, Fashion, Architecture

    * Most Compatible: Aquarius, Gemini, Libra

    * Semi-Compatible: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Virgo, Scorpio

    * Incompatible: Taurus, Cancer, Capricorn, Pisces

    Physical traits

Astrologers believe that each of the twelve signs has identifiable physical traits. Physically, individuals born under the sign of Libra supposedly tend to have a graceful figure, a charming appearance, a roundish head, a thin nose, refined features, a high forehead, and a ‘trademark’ dimple. Tallness is common.”

I’m definitely tall, no violent, and hoping that “wealth and fortune” part is true.

When we going skiing? Time to escape VA…

  2. Hey – I’ve been reading your blog and I wanted to say it’s really entertaining me and I relate to it. I think I found it through Megan Lyles’s blog.. You’re spunky! rock on.

I think astrology is sort of b.s. too – I guess I’m a scorpitarius – on the dividing line between two signs. So I never know which one is really right. I might lean toward scorpio.

A lot more is written on the subject…but you can decide which of these is me 🙂

Snail mail is on the way to you 🙂

  4. Thanks so much for the recap on Aries. My new boo is an Aries and I have been meaning to look this up. Did I really say “new boo?” Anywho…

I’m a Taurus/Gemini, but I am totally more on the Gemini side. At one point I almost named my blog “The Gemini Identity Crisis,” but I thought against it for all those non-zodiac folk. 🙂 I like reading my horoscope for entertainment purposes and I’m so true to most of my traits.

There are really two sides to me:

    Good and Better…smile
The one that likes Bjork and the other that likes Bounty Killer.
Hates most sweets, but loves some of the sweetest sweets.

I could go on, but to answer the question I am a fly, adventurous, fun-loving, crazy, and everything under the sun…. Gemini. And just so we knock out the rest… I am the year of the Dog. So that makes me very loyal.

    Love the blogs, Dia!

  5. I think this is why we bump heads…

Leo: These folks are impossible to miss, since they love being center stage. Making an impression is Job One for Leos, and when you consider their personal magnetism, you see the job is quite easy. Leos are an ambitious lot, and their strength of purpose allows them to accomplish a great deal. The fact that these folks are also creative makes their endeavors fun for them and everyone else. It’s quite common to see a Leo on stage or in Hollywood, since these folks never shy away from the limelight. They are also supremely talented and have a flair for the dramatic. Warmth and enthusiasm seems to seep from every Leo pore, making these folks a pleasure to be around. They do love pleasure!

It’s the Lion which symbolizes Leos, and the king (or queen) of the jungle is a most appropriate mascot, since these folks consider themselves the rulers of their universe (and the Zodiac at that). Like Lions, Leos tend to be dignified and strong, and it is this sense of their power which allows them to get things done. A Leo on your team is a good thing, since Lions are eager to see their projects through to completion. Putting these folks at the helm is a good thing, too, since the Leo-born are natural leaders. They may ruffle a few feathers along the way, however, since they can also be overbearing and somewhat autocratic. This may be in keeping with the Fixed Quality assigned to this Sign — Lions are indeed opinionated and set in their ways. That said, they are well organized, idealistic and have a knack for inspiring others.

And…this is what astrology says about the two of us together:

When Aries and Leo come together in a union of love, the sparks will fly! Both are Fire Signs, passionate and dynamic, with a healthy love of sportsmanship and competition. There is a lot of action in this relationship. Both Signs want to be the boss and problems can arise when their equally-large egos get in the way. These partners have genuine admiration and respect for each other, but they need to learn to take turns commanding and giving orders — even when they’re only choosing a movie at the video store!

This partnership is all about fiery passion, domination and who’s on top — and when! Both Signs can be impatient and proud. Leo likes to be adored and their egos to be stroked, services which easily-bored Aries may not want to provide. Aries may also be bothered by Leo’s flirtatious nature — but this relationship is always exciting. Despite their sometimes noisy differences, Aries often looks to Leo as a guide or counselor. Leo is the Lion and, with Leo, Aries can be the lamb. As in the myth (The Lion and the Lamb), any differences between these two can be overcome. Both Signs are usually respected by others and it’s important that this respect exists within the relationship as well.

Aries is ruled by the Planet Mars and Leo is ruled by the Sun. Both are masculine energy archetypes, and together they make a good combination — they understand each other because they’re coming from the same place. The Sun is about the self and Mars is about aggressive energy, so they’re highly compatible and can make a powerful team.

    I hope you are well…. 😉
